Lana Yuan

Artist member since 2019
Toronto, Ontario

Yuan is a BA. graduated from the Studio Art program at University of Toronto Scarborough. Through her art practice, she primarily focused on designing kinetic installations that demonstrate her contemplation of accelerated technological development. By uniting found objects with electronic components, Yuan’s work demonstrates notions of tradition, childhood, mass-production, and consumerism while calling attention to these subjects in the context and construction of contemporary technological development. She is interested in exploring how integration and transformation is interpreted through making art.

In 2019, her first solo show “System”supported by EDA Student Grant, was opened in Gallery 1265. And her work “Futuristic Toy” was selected to be part of the Shelley Peterson Student Art Exhibition, from April 17-May 18, 2019 in Art Museum at the University of Toronto. The exhibition considers themes of surveillance, cultural construction, and fantasy. Due to the rethinking of conceptual and material boundaries through risk-taking and playfulness of form, the Futuristic Toy was nominated to be one of the winning projects of 2019 Juror Prize.
